Umbar Commercial Register
The Umber Commercial Register is a listing of commercial organisations maintained by the Fairport Convention's TTA (Terms of Trade Authority). This is a listing of the Trading Companies, Corporations, Conglomerates and Guilds operating in the Umber Sub-Sector. Most are major concerns, some presented here are exemplars of the many, smaller operations that keep the sub-sector running, especially away from major OFC freight lanes.
Cavirza Guild: registered Cavirza. This is a loose organisation of Cavirzian business, led by the Cavirza Ship Yards, deigned to enable Cavirza to gain a stake within the growing network of Scott's Guilds, which many fear will effectively come to control the Fairport Convention. Part of the Scott's Guilds and operates under the rules of The Fairport Convention. Originally formed off the back of the SDAOp design consortium.
Cavirza Ship Yards: registered Cavirza. A major industrial force on Cavirza - and the heart of Cavirza's heavy industry. Builds a huge array of star ships, but also has considerable expertise in constructing orbital habitats and off world industrial complexes. Part of the Scott's Guilds (as a member organisation of The Cavirza Guild) and operates under the rules of The Fairport Convention.
Fairport Convention: registered Alrosa. The FPC is not so much a corporation or a guild, but the custodian and arbiter of trade rules, regulatory standards, and all of the ancillary functions that go to support these. Theses are varied, and include cartographic services, political and economic analysis, tracking of market trends, and running specific projects, usually by the tendering out of contracts, to enhance trade in the cluster. This might include design tenders for new vessels, contracts and financing to run starports that otherwise would not be built, or fostering demand for products beyond the bounds of FPC space (e.g. running trade missions and maintaining trade embassies in The Archipelago). Although based on on Alrosa FPC ships, facilities, and staff can be found right across the sub-sector.

Granovox: registered Cavirza. A jump drive manufacturer based on Cavirza. It is one of the oldest companies still in existence in the Sub Sector, it being a conglomerate having formed out of some of the original research and development outfits involved in the rediscovery of jump drive technology in ???? Part of the Scott's Guilds (as a member organisation of The Cavirza Guild) and operates under the rules of the Fairport Convention
Interstella Electromatics: registered Cavirza. IE is a vast electronics holding, mostly operating through whole owned subsidiaries like Vanguard Avionics, or specialist arms like the IE Control Technology Division. Principally based on Cavirza, it has acquired stakes on many other worlds and the exact extent of IE is not easily defined.
Irqudla Investment Holdings (DEFUNCT): Backed by Blind Heart Mining, this was an ill-fated attempt to exploit the mineral rich oceans of Irqudla. The world is still dotted with wrecks of the floating mineral extraction platforms designed for the project.
Kaldor Robotics: registered Zagegar. Kaldor Robotics is an offshoot of the mining operations on that world. Automation and robotic labour became a key note of this world's economy as human labour was often at a premium. Part of the Scott's Guilds and operates under the rules of The Fairport Convention.
Magic Bullet: Entry Awaited. (Drugs Corporation)
New Nova Corporation (current Board of Seven member): Entry Awaited
New World Media: registered Scott's World. Content producing, wholly owned subsidiary of Gal-Net. Most famous products include Leyland in Space and Channel 25 News Service.
Scott's Guilds (general): The Scott's Guilds are a collection of conglomerates, originally based on Scott's World and the most important industrial bloc within the Fairport Convention trading area. However, the guild system has been progressively liberalised and first Guilds from colony worlds like Zagegar, and then other, unconnected and affiliated worlds, like Cavirza, have joined. This has reinforced the Guilds pre-eminent position within The Convention, but conversely weakened the Guild's direct ties to Scott's World. The Guild are run by The Board of Seven, the seven largest guilds as defined at the decennial 'General Valuation', or GV. The board of Seven maintain a discrete apparatus separate to any individual corporation, with numbers of ships and an orbital complex around Scott's World.

Shadow Company: registered Karasen. The Shadow Company is an exemplar of a type of organisation,of which there are many. It is essentially a mercenary company, for hire, working with various Guilds and Corporations on security, intelligence, and especially in the run up to a GV 'economic interdiction operations'. The company maintains a core staff, and has a number of ships at its disposal, but is structured to expand rapidly in periods (like a GV) of high demand. Karasen operates as a 'flag of convenience' registration - a brass plate above a data chute at an off-world facility.
TEMPO (current Board of Seven member): registered Scott's World. The massive orbital construction firm owes its titanic size to being the originator of the OFC blueprint that underpins much of modern trade. Much of its wealth comes not from actual ship construction (though it does a lot of this), but from the fact that most OFC construction elsewhere is done under licence from TEMPO, and also that this company owns the rights to the 'universal connector' - the technology that links cargos pods of a wide variety to the mainstays of OFC ships. It owns six major yards in orbit around Scott's World, and a controlling or substantial stakes in many others around Scott's, and beyond, but has diversified its holdings into electronics and jump-drive construction.

Vanguard Avionics (subsidiary of IE): Company specialising in avionics for small starships (100 to 1000 tons). Wholly owned by IE.

Blind Heart Mining: registered Zagegar. BHM is a large mining corporation operating in the Blind Heart Desert on Zagegar, but also operates concessions on neighbouring worlds. It's principal aim is to supply a range or refined ores and metals to Scott's World, feeding that world's insatiable desire for raw materials. Part of the Scott's Guilds and operates under the rules of The Fairport Convention.
ComCon: The Communications Conglomerate, or ComCon as it is normally known, rose to prominence about half a century ago as a number of individual communication service providers merged to create a unified data management and content platform that now underpins Scott's World's planetary and system-wide broadcast communications, personal communications, and industrial data transfer and secure storage. Significantly, ComCon has always avoided straying into 'content', and is instead an enabling support service for much of the activity of others in this area.
