TEMPO security forces

Like all significant corporations, TEMPO maintain their own security forces, and these forces tend to be increased in strength through the engagement of mercenary companies, and by conversion of peacetime equipment to military uses in the run-up to General Valuations. However, TEMPO is a 'facility heavy' organisation, maintaining huge dockyards, having large physical assets like ships under construction, and acting as the owner/operator of huge OFC vessels on some freight routes. Whilst asset rich, this makes TEMPO vulnerable to sabotage and direct attack, and it consequently retains a standing security force larger than many medium-sized planetary governments. In addition, TEMPO deploys a large number of smaller military vessels of standard type, particularly Mercenary Cruisers, Patrol Vessels, Gazell Escort craft and System Defence Boats. Although TEMPO securities focus on smaller standard vessels is sometimes considered a potential weakness, the Company Security Secretariat's last prospectus states:

Whilst some investors have suggested the need to invest in larger security assets, potentially in the medium-heavy cruiser class, this would only be necessary should TEMPO ever consider an outright war with a well-organised opponent. We are confident that our current conflict asset portfolio reflects the optimal value for money response to current conflict market conditions - emphasising the need for flexible policing units that can be deployed in a wide range of roles and in many different locations, rather than our conflict budget being concentrated in too small a number of 'big-ticket' items. In addition, the use of standard equipment like off the peg vessels ensures the interoperability with commercially available surge capacity to be secured on a contract basis from third party suppliers, in this case, mercenary companies. Forward planning in this market space is essential, as such surge capacity will be in high demand from competitors during the fiscal planning period 'GV minus 2 years'.

It is true to say that TEMPO troopers are, in their own way, iconic, with their black uniforms and distinctive helmet designs, as much a part of the public image of the TEMPO corporation as the OFC vessels they protect.
