Haradath

The Haradath are an indigenous species of the Umbar sector that evolved on the world of Udcapin. Descended from an omnivorous six-limbed amphibious ancestor. This heritage shapes both the physical structure and appearance of these creatures.

They maintain an advanced technological civilisation, based around large 'conurbations in shallow lagoons and warm seas around archipelagoes and coastal swamps. It is perhaps this that gives the Haradath a natural 'damp mossy' smell.

Their technology is one of the most notable and distinctive features of their culture. This technology is bio-mechanical and biochemical in nature. Emerging in a semi-aquatic swamp environment, the psionic influence of insects, small marine creatures, and small airborne gliders that lived in the tree canopy provides motive power and a wide range of chemical reactions including heat and light. When harnessed to machinery, this technology is both flexible and powerful.

As a species, the Haradath are not widespread. Concentrated on their homeworld, they are a minor space-faring race. They are believed to have established a number of colonies in pre-human times, but only Faneron survives. They are periodically encountered in small numbers as far away two or three Parsecs from Udcapin, but are a rarity beyond that.
